About

Lucy at Life and cheeseHi, my name is Lucy Hoffman and I write Life and cheese to help spread the love about artisan, raw milk and downright delicious cheeses. I have a mission to learn more about cheeses and to share this learning with others – including you.

I firmly believe that the more Kiwis try and learn about quality cheese, the bigger a market will grow for truly gorgeous cheese, and the better cheese New Zealanders will make.

I was brought up on huge slabs of New Zealand tasty and mild cheeses. My mother’s one special treat was Galaxy Blue Vein. We all moaned and groaned at the smell, unable to fathom how she could eat this alien looking food with its pungent aroma and strong sharp taste. I was turned on to blue cheese by Aunty Claire, introduced me to a blue vein dip when I was a teenager – I couldn’t believe that something so stinky could taste so good.

And now I have my foodie mission – to build my knowledge of cheese and to share this with my friends and family!

  3. Deciding what goes where sounds like a niatmhgre and I would expect a lot of grey zone material I like the idea of putting it all in one place, so I don’t have to jump around between web sites. My day job involves way too much computing, so I try to minimize recreational computer time as much as possible .

  4. I would really really like to see Galaxy bring back their Blue Vein Spread,it use to be so easy to
stick on a cracker.Wonder why we not see it any more???

    1. I think Galaxy Blue Vein has been overlooked in general. I reckon it’s a pretty good cheese. Perhaps we should start a campaign to bring back the blue spread? You never know it may turn more people onto better cheese!
